A dynamic and passionate performer and educator, Sam Irvine has been playing trombone since age ten and bass guitar since twelve. Growing up in a musical military family in New Hampshire, he was exposed to everything from Bach and Gershwin to James Brown and Chicago—sparking an early, unwavering commitment to becoming a musician. Sam holds degrees in Music Education and Composition (2016) and tailors his teaching to each student’s interests, learning style, and goals, with the mission of building lifelong musicians who genuinely love what they play.

Outside the classroom, Sam performs year-round with several groups, including Big Wy’s Brass Band, Grandmaster (for whom he also arranges horn parts), and the private event band HotSauceATX. He has appeared as a guest artist with ATX Artists for Social Impact and enjoys performing across a wide range of genres, including Classical, Contemporary, Trad Jazz, Ska, Punk, Reggae, Latin, Funk, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Soul. Sam has performed twice at Prizefest in Shreveport, earning 2nd place his first year and the Audience Choice Award the next. He is also a three-time Austin Chronicle “Austin Music Awards” recipient, recognized for “Best Horns” (2022, 2024) and “Best New Act” (2024). A commissioned composer since 2015—including a work for the 250th Anniversary of the New Hampshire State Capitol—Sam continues to actively perform, compose, and inspire students through music.
